Reader’s Question:

My 18 year old son is trying to get car insurance and he told me that the cost is very expensive. I dont think he can afford it. Is there any way the cost can be lowered?

Anna

Houston Texas

Teen car insurance can be really a headache because of the expensive cost of insurance premium. The good news is, there is something you can do to lower your car insurance. Heres how:

  • Good Student Discounts. Most insurers typically offer 10% off from car insurance premium if a young driver can maintain a grade point average of B or above average, in school.
  • As a parent, you need to teach and practice responsible driving habits to be able to acquire safe driver discounts from the insurer. The best way to do this is by enrolling in defensive driving class, which can also in some way reduce your car insurance premium.
  • It is much cheaper if your teen stay on your car insurance policy. Car insurance rate will usually increase up to 100% if a teen driver is added to the parents policy however it is less expensive than having separate car insurance policy.
  • Have your teen drive a less expensive or older car to minimize insurance costs.
  • Anti theft device and security mechanisms installed on your car can essentially lower the risk of damages incurred in an accident, and also lower the risk the car being stolen.

Reader’s Question:

I’ve always been fond of the Beetle convertible. Whenever I see the old Beetle in the movies, I always picture myself driving one. Is there a new model out? Can someone tell me about it? Maybe it’s time I drive around one here in Houston, Texas.

Cathy

Houston, TX

Great thing you asked about the convertible, Cathy, because there is actually a 2009 model out. And yeah, I have to agree with you on what you said. If you have been picturing yourself in one, it’s time you put your hands on the wheel of one. I suggest you schedule yourself for a test drive to get the full feel of driving one around Houston, TX.

While you’re at it, I think you should take some time to appreciate what the folks at Volkswagen put inside the 2009 convertible Beetle. It comes with a 2.5 liter engine, which I think will suit your needs. You appear to be more into the styling of the Beetle. Of course, some of the standard features, that I think you will love, include: 16” wheels, an anti-theft system, an in-dash CD player. Good thing with the 2009 convertible, getting the top up is relatively easy. Push a button and just latch it on the windshield. Since I am a freak when it comes to safety, I do think it will also good for you to know that the convertible comes with side-door beams. These help in keeping you safe in an accident by “absorbing and re-directing” impact energy. I don’t want to ruin the test drive for you by cramming more information. What I know is that you will get style, safety and performance out of the new Beetle convertible. Have fun if you do get one.

Reader’s Question:

Temperature here in Houston, Texas can sometimes go extremely hot, what options do I have to keep my Volkswagen Car in good running condition?

Sheryl

Houston, TX

Probably one of the most painful experiences in my driving life is getting stalled on a highway in Houston, Texas with the sun burning my skin and my head. I would not forget that day when my Volkswagen Golf had an engine overheat. That experience taught me a lesson to regularly check the cooling system of my Volkswagen. I knew then for a fact that my car is almost at its dehydration point.

This one is also applicable to any car make that you or other people may have. Having the engine cooling system in good shape is really the key for an enjoyable driving style. It does not only give comfortable feeling to the driver while cruising down the highway under the summer heat but it also prolongs the function of your engine. In the case of Volkswagen, according to my Dad, who is by the way a Volkswagen auto mechanic, this type of car has sensitive cooling system that it requires regular cooling parts replacement and tuning. So keeping the main cooling system parts such as the hoses, thermostats and pumps could be your key in having a longer driving relationship with your Volkswagen vehicle. Since then, I make it a point to regularly check these three components and make sure they are not yet damaged or worn out. It is also one great idea to get a car insurance that has options for unexpected car systems breakdown. You sure can check some car insurance premiums and details on this site.

Reader’s Question:

My VW usually overheats while driving along Houston, Texas. I checked the water pump and thinks about replacing it. How will I be able to maintain the cooling system of my VW?

Peter

Houston, TX

I used to have an older version of the Volkswagen Beetle which also overheats especially during long drives to downtown Houston, Texas. I had it inspected by a Volkswagen mechanic and found out that the water pump which drives the entire cooling system of the car is already worn out. He explained to me that since this is the main part that provides cool air to the vehicle, this should be always checked and properly maintained. He even suggested at my option to install another pump which will serve as a back up so that the primary pump would not easily get dilapidated. Of course it is really costly to have the entire cooling system replaced, So he suggested that since there are available Volkswagen parts in most Volkswagen dealers around Houston, Texas, I should try considering parts replacements at a time. In your case, you can start off with replacing the water pump and its accessories or attachments then you can give it a few months to replace the drive belt or whichever gets near worn out state.

Having a sound and efficient cooling function for your Volkswagen car will make your driving experience a great one. I still use my old Volkswagen Beetle from time to time and still practice regular checks on its pumps and other cooling parts. So far, I haven’t experienced any incident of overheating because of the type of care that I give. After all, maintenance is still better than acting when the damage got worst. I also suggest that you look for a comprehensive car insurance which would cover towing services just in case you get stocked in the middle of the road due to engine overheating. My friend found nice car insurance on this web page.

Hose Maintenance Checks Volkswagen Houston Texas TX

Reader’s Question:

I recently had a revamp of my VW cooling system here in Houston, Texas. What are the maintenance tips that you can share?

Alex

Houston, TX

One of the easily worn out system in a Volkswagen vehicle is its cooling system. This houses the radiator hose, heater cores with the control valves as well as the expansion tank. These parts are always used and pretty much open to heat elements that is why they get easily worn out. Regular replacements are needed to have the entire cooling system up and running.

My fiancé keeps his Volkswagen car in good shape most of the time, thus he always makes it a point to have a regular schedule for changing the hoses on his cooling system. He usually does it at least every six months for proper maintenance checks as well as verify if there leaks, cuts and worn out hose parts. He told me while we are driving home to Houston Texas one night that the best way to improve the cooling system is to make sure that every hose from the system itself are brand new or does not leak. It would probably make the cooling system weak and costly. He also has a friend who specializes on Volkswagens which he consults from time to time and assigns the repairs to him. I can say he did not want a non VW expert touch his VW car after all. He even wanted to have his VW totally protected so he did some research on the best and practical car insurance, and luckily, he found affordable car insurance on this website that’s why he also recommends this to me.

Cooling System Upgrades For My Volkswagen

Reader’s Question:

I just purchased a used VW car here in Houston, Texas and would like to improve the cooling system. What do you consider the first parts that should be looked into?

John

Houston, TX

I also got my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta in a used car exhibit at a low price but also made some upgrades on some of its parts. I did not had a rough time doing upgrades on my cooling system because my uncle, who is a Volkswagen parts dealer in Houston, Texas helped me in determining which parts should go first. According to him, driving any vehicle with malfunctioning temperature sensors, controls and thermostats could keep me in great danger. So, I suggest that the first parts that you need to replace if that is an old Volkswagen car would be the gate keepers of the cooling system. You must always keep in mind that for the engine to properly work and perform, the car’s cooling system needs to do its function very well. One part that should also be included on your priority when looking for cooling system upgrade is the radiator. This plays an important task within the entire cooling system.

I found my uncle’s advise very useful and right now, I am still happy with the way my Volkswagen Etta performs. I was able to find the parts that I needed in most Volkswagen Parts Dealer. You may also check used Volkswagen car parts around your vicinity or check out the web. In doing so, you may even come across auto insurance carriers that offer different kinds of affordable used car insurance premiums.

Volkswagen Thermostats and Sensors Check

Reader’s Question:

I am about to get a cooling system upgrade with my VW sedan here in Houston, Texas. Do you think having the upgrade affects the thermostat sensors or do you recommend a complete change even for this?

Steve

Houston, TX

Probably the hardest repair that you can have for a Volkswagen would be the engine cooling system. Since Volkswagen’s cooling systems have intricate parts and functions, it is advisable to have a professional Volkswagen auto mechanic do the job for you if you are not knowledgeable with these kinds of repairs.

I was driving a Volkswagen Jetta for almost two years now. Since this is the only car that I have, I make sure that the engine is properly taken care of. I regularly check the functions of the thermostat sensors because my Volkswagen mechanic informed me that if I ever come to a point that I have to do an upgrade, I should start with the thermostats and sensors. These sensors are really helpful especially in keeping the temperature of the entire engine system. Thus, these should be on top of the priority during routine checks as well as upgrades. Damaged or broken sensors and thermostats have great effect on the engine’s temperature up to its general performance. You would not want the idea of getting a faltered sensor or thermostat and end up stalled on a hot summer day in the middle of a busy freeway in Houston, Texas.

Just the same, I suggest that once you have your cooling system upgrade, regular maintenance checks should be scheduled. I also suggest getting a comprehensive car insurance which offers road emergency assistance. I got a car insurance quotation from this site which includes towing services as well as urgent auto mechanic services.
